Service Description

"Solstice" means the sun stands still. On June 21st, the Northern Hemisphere tilts as close to the sun as it ever gets. Daylight stretches across a day that feels like it will never end. For thousands of years, this peak of light has symbolized vitality, abundance, and the fullness of life. It's time to turn your inner light outward and remember that nothing in nature is ever truly lost. It only gets transformed. Let's honor the solstice with the mindful practice of upcycling art. In this hands-on, two-part workshop hosted by Oh, SAND! Art Studio, you'll craft your own original 3D wall art using textiles, plaster, and paint — while exploring the philosophy that beauty doesn't always require something new, only a fresh way of seeing what's already here. Discarded fabric, salvaged scraps, and forgotten textures become the most interesting parts of your piece. They're given a second life, the way the sun gives the year a second beginning. Through this mindful practice, we'll reflect on how our pasts have gifted or burdened us, notice how nature has woven our storylines, and set our intentions for the rest of the year. The workshop takes place over two separate sessions: Part 1 on Sunday, June 21st (the solstice itself), and Part 2 on Sunday, July 12th. How it works: In Part 1 (Sunday, June 21st, from 5–8 pm — 3 hours), you'll learn to layer, shape, and build the foundation of your artwork. You'll experiment freely with form and texture, letting abstract shapes emerge. Between sessions, I'll coat each piece in 3–4 additional layers of plaster — building up maximum texture and ensuring lasting durability. Once your piece has fully cured, you'll return for Part 2 (Sunday, July 12th, from 10 am–noon — 2 hours) to sand, refine, and apply surface finishes and paint effects that bring your design fully to life. A few details: This is a two-part workshop — your registration covers both dates (June 21st and July 12th) - Open to all skill levels — no prior experience needed - Limited to 8 participants for an intimate, unhurried experience - All materials provided - Hosted in a relaxed garden/art studio environment You'll leave with a one-of-a-kind piece made entirely by your own hands — and, in the spirit of the solstice, a renewed way of seeing the materials already in your life.
