When commercial airliners and military aircraft reach the end of their service life, they're typically dismantled in aviation "boneyards." But visionary companies are rescuing these retired giants and transforming their parts into extraordinary sustainable art that brings aviation history into modern homes and offices through sustainable interior design.

California-based MotoArt, founded by Donovan Fell in 2001, pioneered the aviation furniture movement with iconic pieces like their Boeing 747 engine nacelle conference table and polished B-52 wing bars with programmable LED lighting.

While the company no longer produces large-scale furniture, they revolutionized the concept of transforming fuselage panels, engine cowlings, and cockpit instruments into functional art. Today, MotoArt focuses on smaller aviation collectibles including PlaneTags—keychains and luggage tags made from retired aircraft skin—and coasters, making circular design art accessible to aviation enthusiasts at every price point.

Across the Atlantic, UK-based Intrepid Design sources decommissioned aircraft parts worldwide, transforming them into bespoke furniture. Founder Andrew Jackman creates everything from polished 1940s radial engine tables to Martin Baker ejector seats converted into office chairs.

Britain's Plane Industries similarly crafts aviation furniture from BAe-146 engine cowlings and Boeing 737 parts, each piece carrying unique provenance and aviation heritage.

These companies exemplify eco-conscious living through sustainable art materials. Rather than letting historic aircraft end up as scrap metal, they honor these engineering marvels by preserving their stories. A conference table made from a Grumman Albatross aileron or a desk crafted from a 747 rudder becomes an instant conversation starter—functional art that combines industrial aesthetics with environmental responsibility.

For aviation enthusiasts and design-forward professionals seeking recycled art for sale, these upcycled pieces offer something mass-produced furniture never can: tangible connections to flight history. When you furnish with aviation art, you're not just making a style statement—you're celebrating human ingenuity while championing sustainability, one aircraft part at a time.
